PROJECTS

Cornell Prison Reform and Education Project has focused work on the following projects during Gbody meetings. Additionally, we have a weekly volunteer-based project to a local prison center for PREP members to get hands on experince.

Learn about the initiatives below!

1

SENTENCING ADVOCACY & REFORM TEAM

The Sentencing Advocacy and Reform team's major goals for the year are directly lobbying and petitioning key politicians involved in capital punishment cases and raising general awareness and political agency regarding the death penalty on campus. We are hosting an upcoming Krispy Kreme fundraiser to raise money for the Innocence Project.

2

PRISON EDUCATION TUTORING AND OUTREACH TEAM

PREP provides tutors for The College Initiative Upstate, which seeks to minimize the boundaries between incarceration, reentry, and higher education. This year, the Tutoring and Outreach Team plans is working to expand tutoring opportunities, such as The Petey Greene Program. In addition, the Team is working with Prisoner Express, an organization that sends books and education packets to incarcerated program participants, who in return send us artwork.

3

MACCORMICK GAMES VOLUNTEERING

Every Sunday night, a team of volunteers goes to the MacCormick Secure Center--a maximum security prison for boys and young men below the age of 21--and play various board and card games with them.
